Florida solar & roofing — questions homeowners ask us

Quick answers about cost, timing, hurricane resilience, and how we handle solar and roofing under one roof.

Is solar worth it in Florida?

It can be, but the answer is property-specific. Roof orientation and shade, electricity use, installed price, utility tariff, export-credit rules, equipment life, and financing all affect payback. UnionGrid sizes the proposal against your roof and bill and shows the assumptions instead of promising a universal return.

How much does it cost to install solar panels in Florida?

There is no reliable one-price answer. System size, roof condition and complexity, equipment, electrical upgrades, permitting, batteries, and financing fees can materially change the installed price. Use our calculator for a planning range, then compare an itemized cash price and any financing disclosures in writing.

Can solar panels withstand Florida hurricanes?

A Florida rooftop system should be designed and permitted for the site-specific wind criteria, roof structure, attachment layout, and current code. Ask for the signed design, product approvals, permit, inspection record, and written warranty terms; confirm storm coverage directly with your insurer.

How long does solar installation take?

The on-roof installation may take only a few days, but the complete project also includes design, permitting, inspection, utility interconnection, and permission to operate. Timing varies by jurisdiction, utility, roof scope, equipment availability, and corrections; your proposal should provide a project-specific schedule.

Do you handle both solar and roofing?

UnionGrid can coordinate solar and roofing scopes under one project plan. EC13015579 is UnionGrid's Florida Certified Electrical Contractor license; the proposal, permits, and warranties should separately identify the appropriately licensed contractor responsible for each roofing and electrical scope.

What is the federal solar tax credit in 2026?

For new residential clean-energy expenditures after December 31, 2025, the Section 25D credit is no longer available. A new 2026 residential project should not be quoted with a 30% federal credit. Ask a tax professional about an older eligible project or unused carryforward.

Do you offer financing for solar in Florida?

Financing may be available through partner lenders, subject to approval and current program terms. Compare the cash price, APR, lender fees, down payment, term, total payments, prepayment terms, and equipment ownership in the written disclosures; a lower monthly payment is not the same as a lower total cost.

What areas of Florida do you serve?

UnionGrid is headquartered in Tampa and accepts inquiries statewide, including Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Brandon, Riverview, Wesley Chapel, Ocala, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Port Charlotte. Confirm crew and project availability for the specific address.
